FOUNDER Patrick G. Duggan, Pastor The Congregational Church of South Hempstead/UCC Founder & President, Abundant Communities Together, Inc.
The Reverend Patrick Garnet Duggan is a native New Yorker, born in Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn and raised in Hollis, Queens. A graduate of New York City schools, he attended Harvard University earning the Bachelor of Arts degree in 1980. He earned his Master of Divinity degree from the New York Theological Seminary in 1993.
An ordained minister with the United Church of Christ, Reverend Duggan has served as Senior Pastor of the Congregational Church of South Hempstead/United Church of Christ (CCSH) since 1995. As the head of this thriving faith community that has doubled to over 250 members during his tenure, Rev. Duggan has provided spiritual guidance and leadership to church and community; has trained six seminarians, and assisted four to complete the ordination process. Currently, the church is in the visioning, design and fundraising phase of a major expansion of its facilities. Rev. Duggan founded Abundant Communities Together, (ACT) a faith-based 501(c) 3 affiliate of CCSH, in 1999.
In February 2004, Duggan was appointed by Nassau County Executive Tom Suozzi to the position of Deputy County Executive for Economic Development. Under his leadership, the County has facilitated the construction or rehabilitation of over 2000 units of housing, secured the County’s first Empire Zone, facilitated over $1billion in new investment and created over 5700 jobs.
Duggan’s career includes both public and private sector experience as an executive, a fundraiser, and a consultant.
As a member of Group XIII of the prestigious Kellogg National Fellowship Program, Rev. Duggan conducted a study of community development in the United States and regional development internationally. During the Fellowship, Rev. Duggan surveyed economic development initiatives in every region of the United States, two nations in South America, five Caribbean islands, and six African nations. This experience convinced Reverend Duggan that sustainable economic development requires coordinated regional strategies that combine advocacy, technical assistance, market-based investment, leadership development, and organizing multi-stakeholder constituencies.
